This book exemplifies the reason I am addicted to buying food books. It is beautiful in its presentation, wonderfully written, and moves beyond being simply a ‘cook book’ rather it is a piece of literature about food, culture, family and enjoying life.
The Author was born in London to a Finnish mother and a Greek-Cypriot father, as a child she lived in South Africa, and she now resides in Italy with a Peruvian housekeeper. She takes her influences from those around her to produce many mouthwatering recipes accompanied by stunning photography.
From Scandinavian pastry’s with cinnamon and cardamom to pork braised in red wine, and even a Cypriot trifle made from rose water and preserved fruits this book offers a large variety of dishes from simple to rather elaborate.
The food photography is mouth watering, and is accompanied by many wonderful narrative images that give a sense of the Authors family and homeland.
A must read for anyone who loves food. This book is about food that has history, and food that has soul. Falling Cloudberries begins with the authors family tree, and by then final page you realize that this book forms a family tree for the food that appears on her table. This book reminds us that real food doesn’t follow trends, it follows families.
